ABOUT OUR
PRACTICE
Luba
and Deb have come together into one practice because of a shared
philosophy of midwifery care. In our practice you will have your
ongoing care provided by two midwives who are known to you. We
believe that by providing two midwives to each woman we can ensure:
1. Your prenatal appointments should not be disrupted by other
births because the midwife providing prenatal appointments is
not on call.
2. You have the benefit of two midwives' experience and knowledge
base, and will have the opportunity to become acquainted with
both of the midwives during the pregnancy.
3. In the unlikely circumstance that two women are laboring at
the same time, there is another midwife available who is known
to you.
We believe that this shared care model provides the best care
possible.
Prenatal
Appointments
Appointments are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting from 9:00 AM to 5 pm PM. They will
generally occur monthly until 30 weeks, when the visits become
more frequent, with weekly appointments from 36 weeks until delivery.
You are welcome to bring your partner or significant others to your
visits. If you are planning a home birth, one of us will visit you
at your home sometime in the month before your due date.
Postnatal
Visits
Midwives provide
full care to clients and their babies until 6 weeks after the birth.
You can expect to be visited by a midwife several times after your
baby is born. Generally you will be visited at your home each day
for the first 2 or 3 days and gradually decreasing over the next
few weeks. You can expect to receive 6 to 8 visits in total, finishing
at 6-7 weeks after the baby is born, with this final visit in the
midwives' clinic.
Call Schedule
Each week
one of the midwives will be doing all prenatal appointments. The
other midwife will be available to answer all urgent calls, will
be on call for all labours and births, and will attend all postnatal
appointments in client's homes. For client's planning home births,
generally the second midwife on call in the practice will also be
present to assist at the birth.
